When you give her the flute, she follows you around and will sometimes heal you. I never did it.

Also, if you give her red iris flowers, she gives you a tapestry shred. (although some people say you need to buy her the cape, but i never did and i still got it)

I had her following me not long ago and I think she says (just floating over head text) something about wanting to find a new home and family. At one point she mentions a woman who would be a great mother...I haven't had the time to really dig into it though and was hoping someone had.

New player here, but have been paying attention to Gwen and here is what I have discovered:
1) Until you give her a new flute, she doesn't progress on the story.
2) She wants at least 5 of the red iris flowers and about an hour hanging out with you to give up the tapestry shred. (I found if I left before the hour, she seems to reset and I had to do it over again. Took me three times to get the tapestry shred from her.)
Note: At this point, she now appears in every area I enter that is not a city area. At first, she only appeared to me if I were coming into Lakeside from Aschalon.
3) After about two and a half hours (real time) running around with her, she mentions how she'd love to have a pretty cape like (forgot the name, sorry). At this point, I gave her the girls cape purchased from the vendor.
4) About 30 minutes or so after handing her the cape, she mentions where her mother lives and what her mother's name is (I *think* it was sharon or susan, missed it, thanks to battle spam).
Note: She recently disappeared and I have no idea why. I'm going to look for her tomorrow and see if I can get her to tell me about her mother again, then see about tracking mom down for her. Will update as events warrant.
I presume if you reunite her with her mother, you'll meet her sometime after the searing. She mentions that she wants to be a famous musician, and I have a sneaking suspicion that tapestry piece will be very useful later on... of course at this point, that's a guess.
If anyone happens to know the mother's name, I would appreciate a confirmation on it. I do want to finish up with her before heading out into the big world.

I read on another forum that this quest is broken and that the devs will fix it...eventually. Someone supposedly emailed tech support and received an email from tech support saying the devs will fix the quest and that it is broken. The poster posted the email message and it did seem legite. I don't have the link anymore though. You could always try to google for it and see if it comes up for you.

Yeah, her mom's name is Sarah, and I found a Sarah in Pre-seared Ascalon. Gwen was tagging along with me, but neither Gwen nor Sarah seemed to care about each other.
Question - if you bought the flute and/or cape for her on one character, does Gwen continue storywise for your other characters, as well? Because I never bought her the flute or cape on my main character, and I'm already level 18 lol.. so I went to Pre-seared with a new character to befriend Gwen, and then put the Tapestry Shred in my inventory.

Not sure, but I'm guessing you run into Gwen later in life and that tapestry shred will be important to her (or someone who knows or knew her).
Also guessing that later, she and her mom will want to be reunited.

If you join a party with someone who has bought her a cape or new flute then you will automaticly be updated to that persons status (I.E. Resurrection Signet). But you will not get the tapestry right away if you do that, or at all as far as I have seen.
From my experience, I find her broken flute, then save up enough to give her a flute, cape, and a flower all at once, and she always give me a tapestry shred, immediatly, and she says your her favorite person in the whole world, next to Mom.
So unless the time factor is cumalative of the time spent on all occasions then it doesn't exsist at all. Many have reported getting the tapestry by giving her several flowers, but I've tried giving her dozens of flowers with my first character and it never worked.
I've found broken flutes more then once on the same character in post seering, and they are not quest items. So I don't know that it matters much.
I've scoured most of pre seering from the the back of Wayward Wizard and all of the secret passages of the Catacombs, and I haven't found anything that has to do with the tapestry shred, I've also fought monsters like the River Drake and the Skale Brood (not broodcaller), and I even tolk a pot shot at taking down the fire callers in pre seering (you would have to be way over lvled to win) and I never saw anything back there either. I don't know what the tapestry shred is for, but it probably is a broken quest like formentioned, I would like to know if it is a quest you can complete post seering though, if it isn't then I'll just toss the shred on my other characters.

Actually its pretty easy to get the shred, just get her broken flute for her, buy her a new flute and every red iris you find give it to her and bang she gives you the tapestry shred. No need to bust your pre searing wallet on a red cape for the little leech .

I have the shred, and this girl has been pissing me off because i haven't figured this quest out in all my time playing this game.
And before anyone wastes time with the Charr theory, I went out with a friend and killed every monster north of the wall pre-searing, including the big mob at the fire temple/fort thingy. A royal pain in the ass. And it didn't shed any light on the situation.

After spending a whole lot of time with Gwen. Never really tested how long because well it wasnt really importent. I noticed that Sarah had dissappeared from Ashford area in the exploreable area. Yet when i had gone a day before she had been there talking about getting some sort of root or something. Could it be that you have to spend time with gwen then go look for her mother when she isnt in Ashford anymore? Already left preseering Ascalon will have to go look into it sometime. Also maybe you have to give the shread to her mother later in game?

I think Sara is just random, she was there one time, then when I went back she was gone, and when I went back a couple of days later she was there again.

This was posted by someone in my guild over at the Penny Arcade forums, thought I should post it here to clear things up.

Finding her broken flute post searing is just a memento, nothing more. The bastards.

So, does anyone know if you actually get to meet back up with Gwen after you cross over into the real part of the game?

I just hope that the dev's take gwen to heart, and don't do a cheap quest finish. Hopefully they'll really tie her into the story down the line.
